❀ SHAI MAESTRO – 8:30 PM at the Paris Jazz Festival ❀

Shai Maestro is one of the most promising and talented pianists of his generation. Since debuting with his own trio in 2011, Shai has forged a strong and unique personal identity imbued with incredible musical fluidity, enshrining Shai’s lineups among the most powerful and harmonious bands in jazz today. 2018 was a big year for Shai, signing with major jazz label ECM and recording his debut album “The Dream Thief” there, featuring his trio, but also him as a solo pianist.

In its review of The Dream Thief, All About Jazz spoke of a lyrical atmosphere, emotional eloquence, and communal virtuosity in the service of the music. All of this also applies to “Human,” Shai’s latest outing on ECM, where Maestro’s outgoing and highly communicative band becomes a quartet with the inspired addition of American trumpeter Philip Dizack. Shai’s expansive pianism is well matched with Dizack’s alert and quick approach to improvisation. And, as always, Maestro pushes the music forward while respecting its sense of tradition.
