Robin McKelle & The Flytones at the Festival M’Improvise, Théâtre Intercommunal of Etampes

Show created in 2014 for “Jazz à la Villette”, this concert pays tribute to soul music as it was conceived at Stax Records… Because it is in Memphis that the epicenter of southern soul is found, the real one, the one cherished so much by the New York singer who made her debut in jazz big bands. It was during her trip to Memphis where she recorded her album “Heart Of Memphis” that Soul Music sounded like a revelation of her penchant -already well anchored- for this musical style.

The tribute to Stax will be even more emphatic since Robin McKelle will revisit the classics that made the success of the legendary label: Mr Big Stuff, Green Onions, Respect, Shake… Gleaming brass and “funky” rhythms, the groove specific to Stax is at light years from the more pop one, designed in Detroit, at the competitor Motown.

Like her elders Carla Thomas, Otis Redding or even Isaac Hayes, Robin McKelle has above all for her the gift of coiling her voice to perfection in the very spirit of the sound of Memphis and of bringing to life a spirit and a spirituality. that time has hardly faded.
