Ever since the 2003 release of her debut, Another Mind<\/strong>, Hiromi<\/strong> has electrified audiences with a creative energy that encompasses and eclipses the boundaries of jazz, classical and pop, taking improvisation and composition to new heights of complexity and sophistication.<\/p>\n On her new album, Silver Lining Suite<\/strong>, Hiromi further exemplifies her virtuosic hybridity<\/strong> and emotional range, finding strength and hope amidst the turmoil of the pandemic.<\/p>\n Born in Hamamatsu, Japanin 1979, Hiromi\u2019s firstpianoteacher, Noriko Hikida, exposed Hiromi to jazz and introduced her to the great pianists Erroll Garner<\/strong> and Oscar Peterson<\/strong>. She enrolled in the Yamaha School of Music and started writing music.<\/p>\n Hiromi moved to the United States in 1999 andstudiedat the Berklee College of Music<\/strong> in Boston. Among her mentors was jazz bassist\/arranger Richard Evans<\/strong>, who took Hiromi\u2019s demo to his friend, the legendary pianist Ahmad Jamal<\/strong>. Evans co-produced Another Mind<\/strong> with Jamal.<\/p>\n Another Mind<\/strong> was a critical successin North America and Japan, where the album shipped gold and received the Recording Industry Association of Japan\u2019s Jazz Album of the Year<\/strong> Award. Hiromi\u2019s astonishing debut was but a forecast of the shape of jazz to come.<\/p>\n In 2009, she recorded with pianist Chick Corea<\/strong> on Duet, a live recording of their concert in Tokyo.
