Kenny Garrett Quintet and Sounds From The Ancestors

With his latest album “Sounds from the ancestors”, composer and alto-saxophonist Kenny Garrett shows a project in the lines of James Brown, Jimmy Hendrix and Sly Stone. The general concept? Rediscover soul-elevating childhood sounds like Aretha Franklin’s “Amazing Grace”, Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” and John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme”. To do this, he leads modern Afro-Cuban jazz with hard-bop, R&B and hip-hop passages.
