After fifteen years of career, Brazilian singer-songwriter Céu is widely accepted as one of the most influetial and important Brazilian artists of this century. She began her career in 2005 with an American Grammy nomination, shortly after changing the scene in her own country , by leading a new generation of female singers who also write their own songs and use digital media to promote their work.
Alongside being one of Brazilian leading artists, her songs also appeared across the globe throughout movies, TV series and ads. Céu also toured abroad since her first years of working, playing live on four continents and performing in the most important Brazilian festival, as well as Montreal Jazz Festival (CA), North Sea Jazz Festival (NL) Coachella (USA), Roskilde (DK), Rock In Rio (BRA), and Lollapalloza (BRA), among others. She also won two Latin Grammys in 2016, after being nominated five times years before.
Céu appears regularly on TV (Later…with Jools Holland) and magazines and newpapers such as The New York Times, The Guardian, Q Magazine, Wired, Sunday Times, Les Inrockuptibles and Telerama has written articles about her. She also played live along Brazilian and International artists, such as Duran Duran or Herbie Hancock.
Her new album APKA! (2019) shows her new repertoire along songs written by two Brazilian leading composers, Caetano Veloso and Dinho Almeida (Boogarins), made after Céu’s request. The album, produced by Hervé Slaters (General Electriks) and Pupilo (Former Naçao Zumbi’s drummer), also has cameos by artists such as Brazilian sambista Seu Jorge, North-American guitarist Marc Ribot and Brazilian trap producers Tropkillaz. Released exclusively in Brazil in September 2019, the album continued the success of critically and publicly acclaimed Tropix (2016) and was featured in all Brazilian media outlets as one of the greatest albums of the year. The APKA! tour has already travelled to the main Brazilian capital cities.
In April 2020, APKA! will be released worldwide by Six Degrees Records / INgrooves / Universal, followed by an international tour that will present her new concert in the United States, Canada and Europe.
